Trace the money before you trust the claim

Check MTN MoMo, Airtel Money, Zamtel Kwacha, bank and card claims, the 5% betting levy, transaction records and escalation steps.

A Zambia payment check has two legs

A deposit arriving does not prove a withdrawal will work. Record each route separately: wallet or bank used, amount in ZMW, levy shown, operator transaction ID, provider reference, timestamp and account name. Never send a PIN or one-time password to support.

Before depositing

  • Confirm the exact domain and account-holder name.
  • Read minimum and maximum amounts.
  • Save the payment-method and levy wording.
  • Set a loss limit that does not depend on winning it back.

If money is missing

  • Capture the operator ledger and wallet statement.
  • Ask for a ticket number in writing.
  • Contact the payment provider separately.
  • Use the complaint evidence pack.

The current levy context

The Betting Levy Act 2025 provides for a five percent levy on deposits and withdrawals and requires betting companies to maintain electronic transaction records. Read the National Assembly text; it does not prove that any particular operator calculated a transaction correctly.

Compare only after recording the route

Keep the exact payment claim beside the operator dossier.

Questions people ask

Does a successful MTN MoMo deposit prove withdrawals work?

No. Deposit and withdrawal rails, limits and verification steps can differ and must be checked separately.

What should I save after a failed transaction?

Save the amount, date and time, operator transaction ID, mobile-money or bank reference, account ledger and support ticket.
